-- My Mountain, My Way --

By John Herlihy

A mountain stood before me,

There was no other way.

In accepting the challenge,

I set upon my true way.

In making the journey,

I discovered friendship.

In clinging to my hope,

I gathered my courage.

In pursuing my dream,

I found my own reality.

In making the journey,

I discovered friendship.

In finding respect in myself,

I found love among others.

In uncovering knowledge

I could use it in life as wisdom

In seeking the unknown,

I came myself to be known.

In unveiling my mystery,

I bowed to the Greater Mystery.

In reaching the summit,

I was opened to a new vision.

In climbing my mountain,

I finally reached the summit.

A mountain no longer before me,

I had conquered my way.

Well put! It reminded me of the Hero's epic journeys of old. We all still make them, just not always so spectacularly.

"In finding respect in myself,
I found love among others."

Isn't that the way it always turns out? Respecting oneself gives the opening which allows would-be strangers to respect (and love) what has been hidden for so long, the wonderful ability to allow ourselves to be loved.

Excellent write. But once you reach the top of the mountain, it's all downhill from there.
