-- The Folly of Desire --

The folly of desire sets a wayward course,

As crooked as a thief and inspires remorse.

Never mind that our desires steal us away,

Rob us of our virtue as we inevitably stray.

Our desires seem as a form of deliverance,

Our wanting makes a virtue of persistence.

Desire finds source in cravings of the body,

Such passions crave things from everybody.

Our desires often lead to a criminal intent,

To seek out evil no matter what we meant.

Our desires but scourge our heart to burn,

To lay waste the desire our heart to yearn.

Beware the sky grows dark, the seas higher,

All in the frothing wake of the folly of desire.

John Herlihy

Wisdom of intention sets a rightful course,

Straight arrow with no need for remorse.

Never mind intentions not always fulfilled,

Enough to savor all the good things willed.

Our intentions promise valued deliverance,

Thoughtfulness will add to their persistence.

Intention will find its source in a clear mind,

Lending a solemn purpose as a glue to bind.

Our intentions often lead to rightful intent,

To unveil the goodness in what we meant.

Our intentions but a balm that will soothe,

Leading us onward to help find our groove.

Spare not effort the right thing to mention,

In order to awaken the wisdom of intention.
