-- All Will Be Well --
John Herlihy
I hear the clock ticking,
But I know not the hour.
I hear the birds singing,
But I know not their power.
I feel my mood filling,
Thoughts have their way.
Emotions an onion peeling,
On this and every day.
In all patience I wait,
I know not what will happen.
The unknowing a kind of bait,
Uncertainty on my soul tappin’.
A bird came by its own command,
To land gently on my open hand.
Soon the knowing will arrive,
To feel within that I am still alive.
This simple gesture does volumes tell,
Now I know that all will be well.

My partner feeds the birds every day, but they are very shy and don't even come close, except for the doves that seem less frightful. Perhaps it is good because this morning while exercising, a Cooper's Hawk that has been hanging around, I believe, from the corner of my eye, snatched a sparrow off our 6 foot cedar fence. After all this is the wild West, Texas… In suburban Houston.
In about five minutes, all was well and the birds were back feeding at the bird feeder.
