-- Our Lives in Chords -- John Herlihy Life plays out to the strum of harmonious and discordant chords. As we go about Upon a stage filled with beggars, ladies and lords. The progression of chords Played one after another relentlessly, loudly, softly. The lyric chords Enter the cavern of our hearts sweetly, tenderly, gently. The merciful chords Echo an outpouring of feelings most tender. The beautiful chords Shape our thoughts into images of splendor. The raucous chords Jarring our souls with infectious, harsh disharmonies. The mournful chords Express a sorrow that is blessed with sacred harmonies. The echoing chords Reverberate through the air across the verdant knoll. The silent chords Await the Supreme Hand to strum harmonies within our soul. - - - - - - (c) John Herlihy 10 August 2019

I've often heard the reference, "the music of life." Here your poem shows how that reference can be interpreted. Well done.

I never knew there were so many different kinds of chords. But you have an unique way of describing full rainbow range of whatever you are writing about in your poems. I have often seen the necessity of chords and musical presentation, but they seem to be in the background. I prefer a lonely melody played out without chords harmonizing in the background. That said, your chords here are metaphors for phases in our lives.

(As an aside) your title has a typo.) What struck me most clearly was the reference to "The silent chords", as they await the heart and mind of a caring person who is gifted with musical imagination always at the ready. Kudos.
