-- Not Yet Dreamt --

John Herlihy

I await the dream I have not yet dreamt,

A dream of restful fulfilment not yet sent.

Some dreams arrive of their own volition,

Other dreams foretell of our own perdition.

A seed never knows the tree it will become,

A spider imagines a web it may have spun.

A stranger knows somewhere lies a friend,

A mountain stream carries the river’s end.

Amid all hopes and desires, a dream awaits,

There on the other side of the earthly gates.

We cross many borders into landscapes unknown,

The song of each border from divine rhythms sewn.

Living in a way that I always dreamed I would be,

The one future dream that I patiently wait to see.

IN HIS WORD, GOD TELLS US THAT, '...EYES HAVE NOT SEEN NOR EARS HEARD...ALL THAT HE HAS PREPARED FOR US...' I THANK HIM FOR THIS DREAM WHICH LIVES IN THE HEART OF ALL THOSE WHO BELIEVE. A DREAM THAT IS SO CERTAIN...BECAUSE HE PROMISED. ENJOYED IMMENSELY, THANKS FOR SHARING. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...HIS+INSPIRATIONS

In some ways you have been living a dream. But there is always more, isn't there. You may pursue your next dream as a result of a dream. Something to be poetic about. As far as bucket list dreams, I believe you're right up there champions of travel.

I've had dreams that I wish I would dream again, and I also have reoccurring dreams that I wish I could stop, but that's the way it is with dreams. We have no control over our minds while we slumber. The dreams I don't like are the ones that can linger on after waking.

While reading your poem the 2nd time, I reminded myself of dreams I've longed to have, and then... how fulfilling the dreams I have experienced, both nocturnal, and consciously. The mind is a forever merging phenomenon of what if, and what is. Your words harken back to the initial maxims of our ancestry of Greek philosophers and bring us up to the modern-day philosophy where dreams are often under fire. Most likely because there are those who see dreams as fiction, day to day behavior, reality. How wrong that is to not see the connection. Makes me think heavily on the many dreams that are not expressed as you have here. You instill in a reader a determination to allow dreams to mean something beyond the obvious. Loved your thoughts so poetically expressed here, John.

Right now it's my dreams that keep me going when it seems the rest of the world has gone insane. Dreams are my expression of hope.

My mom says ‘If you can’t say anything nice then don’t say anything’. Sorry mom but under the guise of poetic license I penned these beauties.
