-- Stillness in Solitude --
John Herlihy
Solitude can be a companion,
Its emptiness there to be filled.
Its intimacy feels like a brother,
Its stillness real but not willed.
Fill it I do, with steadfast hope,
Meeting solitude face to face.
Tied in ribbons of divine rope,
Solitude of mind a restful place.
A question may dare creep in,
Uninvited, to force me down.
Loneliness tempts with its sin,
Like a stolen key newly found.
If loneliness knocks on my door,
Stillness of solitude utters a roar.
