-- The Sublime Face --
John Herlihy
At night, we gaze above
Fall deeply into outer space
I feel nothing but love
For this endless, infinite place
Nothing is still
All is in movement
Nothing is ever still
Only the eternal moment
Clouds move in unison,
Spreading moisture on earth.
The earth moves in union,
Since the time of its birth.
Our solar system moves,
The planets in slow motion.
Each in their own groves,
In the spell of a magic potion.
Our sun but a white dwarf,
It too moves in the dark.
Ever wandering, held aloft,
In its galaxy’s celestial park.
The Milky Way spreads forth,
A shimmering pathway of light.
Instinctively, we know its worth,
As it illuminates the dark of night.
This spiral of stars does swarm,
Into myriads of moving galaxies.
As buzzing bees humanity to warn,
Of deep outer-space’s infinities.
There in the deep, dark beyond,
On the other side of eternity.
Those galaxies fill a universal pond,
Endless journey in the realm of infinity.
It all happens in a silence ever still,
With such movement, such grace.
Imagine, listen, simply feel the thrill,
To be part of God’s Sublime Face.
