MIRROR POEMS

-- The Ugliness of Pride --

John Herlihy

You know what you don’t possess,

You know who you are never are.

Never holding back, ready to confess,

Shining always as a distant star.

Your pride a thing of ugliness,

Dark waters that feel murky.

Your voice echoes of boastfulness,

Your face features a soul haughty.

Your attitude nauseating to behold,

Worthy to despise, full of disgrace.

In taking your hand I pride hold,

Corruption, deceit mark your face.

In pride witness ugliness of soul,

More than that need never be told.

-- The Beauty of Humility --

John Herlihy

You don’t know what you possess,

You don’t know who you are.

Always holding back, ready to confess,

Shining briefly as a distant star.

Your humility a thing of beauty,

A still reservoir that runs deep.

With placed waters soft, velvety,

Your face features a soul meek.

Your attitude touching to behold,

Worthy to admire, full of grace.

I take your hand humility to hold,

Purity, simplicity mark your face.

In humility witness beauty of soul,

More than that need never be told.

DONE SO WELL, MY FRIEND. AND, JUST TO THINK...EVERYONE HAS A LITTLE OF BOTH IN THEM AS IT SHOULD BE. HOWEVER, IT'S WHEN THE 'HARMONY' OF BALANCE IS LOST THAT THE PROBLEM BEGINS. AND ONE EITHER SINKS TO A PLACE WHERE THEY CAN'T EVEN SEE THEMSELVES...OR...PROPELS HIGH TO A SELF-IMAGINED 'THRONE' WHERE THEY ALSO LOSE SIGHT OF THEIR TRUE SELF. I LOVE YOUR MIRROR POEMS, THEY'RE GREAT! LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...HIS+INSPIRATIONS

"ugliness of soul" is indeed rampant in this world John. Your insightful 'mirror poems' (for me) bring to mind these quotes:
1. "Pride is concerned with who is right. Humility is concerned with what is right." Ezra T. Benson
2. "Pride perceiving humility honorable, often borrows her cloak." Thomas Fuller.
Thanks for sharing. rlc

In today's world it can be difficult to tell pride from true confidence, and humility from self derision. We need to be reminded how to tell them apart.
