-- When the Ocean Sings --

John Herlihy

When the ocean sings,

The shore listens.

When sunlight flies on wings,

The earth glistens.

When clouds darken the sky,

Mountain peaks surrender.

When eagles fly on high,

Gardens flourish in summer splendor.

When the wind romps at play,

The trees awaken from their rest.

When birds delight in what they say,

The ears of children feel blessed.

When we hear the lion’s roar

We feel such fear as never before

When mountains of the earth rumble,

Everyone in the world feels humble.

A very fanciful set of similes that are quite remote. But they do make the reader think.

The various nuances of nature evoke different things which you are very much in tune to in your poem.

As C.S. Lewis proffered: "humility is not thinking less of yourself, it's thinking of yourself less." There is much beauty still. Enjoyed. r

In these emotionally torrid times, your worlds of calm observation are indeed appreciated. Thank you.
