-- Their Truest Form --
John Herlihy
All creatures wear their true st form,
Inner qualities their outer shells adorn.
Wisdom of the owl etched in its face,
Discipline of the ant no one can efface.
The cat shows a focused complacency,
Soaring eagles display awesome nobility
In all elegance, egrets stand on one foot,
The slimy worm makes its way thru soot.
Timidity tucked in the fur of the mouse,
Spiders spin webs in the attic of a house.
The outer cloak betrays the inner design,
The body’s integrity is found in the spine.
One creature that wears no true st form,
As if by moonlight, of spun miracles born.
A being with true qualities we never see,
Hidden in the mind/heart of you and me.
