-- No Other Word --
John Herlihy
A tiny teardrop of dew
Reflects a world of sky blue.
Fell from a blade of grass,
What will in my mind amass.
Arriving suddenly in my life – a decoy.
There is no other word for it – joy,
A surging wave rushes onto the shore;
An unexpected feeling that asks for more.
A child’s soap bubbles that rise, float, break;
There in the heart, my soul ground did shake.
Arriving suddenly in my life – peacefulness,
There is no other word for it – happiness.
A rush from a blindness that sees;
Mountain peaks caressed by a gentle breeze.
Shards of light in a mirror that may break;
The one enduring emotion no one can ever hate.
Arriving suddenly in my life – a dove,
There is no other word for it – love.
Clouds gather in a crimson sky;
Fiery colors surge thru a divine prism.
The horizon in flames, a sense of mystery;
Twilight upon us with its sense of eternity.
Arriving suddenly in my life – a law,
There is no other word for it –awe.
From dewy mist an arching rainbow,
As transient and ephemeral as winds that blow.
Like a solar eclipse or a shooting star,
To forget all the hardship that in my life did mar.
Arriving suddenly in my life – capture,
There is no other word for it – rapture.
A piercing scream not of terror but delight;
The sheer bedazzlement of a blinding light.
The darkness of night softened by moonbeams,
To finally loose oneself in finding what life means.
Arriving suddenly in my life – a fantasy,
There can be no other word for it – ecstasy.
The icy tail of a comet in the darkness of the universe;
The beauty and truth of the words in poetic verse.
The scent of a presence in a wave of perfume;
The silent ringing of bluebells in gardens that bloom.
Arriving suddenly in my life – a possibility,
There can be no other words for it – mystery.
