One of my night poems, that is to say, a poem that begins to be written during the un(sub)conscious state of sleeping only to be finished upon awakening. I consider them special because of the mystery of their birth.

-- Just Wondering–

John Herlihy

Just wondering

About the questions

In my life

Puzzled, probing

Just imagining

About the mysteries

In my life

In awe, exposing

Just being silent

Its implicit calm

As inner balm

Quiet, soothing

Just talking

To my other self

My conscience as witness

Reflective, reproving

Just listening

To the music

Of the day

In wonder, rejoicing

Just gazing

Into the darkness

Of the night

Thoughtful, penetrating

Just smelling

All the perfumes

After spring rain

Sweet, intoxicating

Just tasting

The dreamy heart

Of the life experience

In hope, unveiling

Just touching

The soft texture

Of the darkness

Invisible, inviting

Just praying

Heart and soul

In the well of myself

In gratitude, mystifying

Just remembering

Of the Divine Unity

May our souls endure

Luminous, illuminating

So many justs of such beauty, makes one wonder where you get the time. But as you stated, these ideas come to you in your dreams sublime. Very nicely rendered as I watched your calm return after posting this little delight from the night.

What struck me was not the usual layering of an idea which is your successful style, but the word "Just" at the head of every stanza. As a qualifying word, I was left thinking about the cliche phrase: Just sayin' To put this poem in that same mindset, the reader is made to self examine himself due to your phrasing that doesn't pontificate or demand. Well done.
