-- A Cloudless Sky --

John Herlihy

There is something glorious about a cloudless sky,

As if giving an answer to the cosmic question why.

Sublime invitation in the vast expanse of sea blue,

This celestial dome hiding secrets only God knew.

A sea in sky in far-reaching depths of outer space,

I sit on a porch marveling at this wondrous place.

An everlasting blueness of sky captured in the bay,

A waveless plate of glass, such stillness to convey.

Thru the stained-glass sky, birds soar as if they belong,

Diving into the cobalt fathoms while singing their song.

All the cares of my world begin to slip away and to fade,

Morning mist has disappeared to reveal a ceiling of jade.

For a brief moment, I feel overcome with a rare power,

A precious moment to take along into the passing hour.

After the rigors of harsh winter arrives this spring chill,

A breeze roams the plenitude of heavens now but still.

21st century city in the distance, under heaven dwarfed,

While the sky overhead by the finger of God held aloft.

The rarity of this cloudless sky by magic wand caressed,

As my eyes see into the infinite with this vision blessed.

Interesting.... "the finger of God", and "by magic wand" in the same verse lends an interesting juxtapose of spiritual and mystical to this poetic summary. Enjoyed this. Thanks for sharing. Peace.... r

Intriguing image to accompany “Cloudless Sky.” I enjoyed this invitation into your experience of gratitude. I like the imagined image of you on the porch, aware of what expansive sky does for you. My favorite lines are: “A waveless plate of glass, such stillness to convey.” and “A precious moment to take along into the passing hour.” Cheers to you, John, keep gazing, keep writing ~~ djl
