-- Finding Our Way –

John Herlihy

We spend many years of a lifetime finding our way,

Finding our way in a world that goes its own way.

A world that offers a multitude of ways to be taken,

Ways representing choices to often leave us forsaken.

Forsaken, feeling lost, on a path that I didn’t intend,

Perhaps didn’t intend, but that my destiny did send.

Destiny, kind, cruel destiny, from whence you come?

My path, my life, each day that I lived, each day won.

Ways to find our way, but we didn’t make the path,

Paths laid out before us, we deal with the aftermath.

Decisions to be made, each path is uniquely chosen,

As our dreams over the horizon of our heart arisen.

If a dream becomes a reality, that too makes its way,

So many blessings in disguise with so much to say.

Whether blessed or forsaken, nothing stays the same;

The one thing essential we on our chosen path remain.

They say that determination will lead us to our goal;

Our free will to lead us thru the mysteries of the soul.

Mysteries appear before us to make themselves known,

Opening petals of a flower, with beauty and light sewn.

We need not unduly exaggerate what we must endure;

The way will unfold before us when our hearts are pure.

Ever searching and ever seeking, yet never fully found,

It’s the losing and finding that make us uniquely profound.

Another profound insight into our lives. Whether our way results in honor and recognition, wealth and prestige, is often dependent upon luck rather than purpose.

But the more we explore, both the physical earth or the words in dusty old text or with a single finger click on the World Wide Web, the greater our knowledge grows and in that growing and knowing we should become better people.

A very wise poem to ponder…
I’m reminded of that wonderful song
“I’ll Find my way Home…” by
Jon and Vangelis..

There's much wisdom here, John.
Quite a nice philosophical probing.

Each person is but a grain of sand resting beside the sea. This thought sets the tone for Jill Eisnaugle’s latest poetry collection, Beside Still Waters.
