-- He Who Learns --

John Herlihy

He who learns as a child,

As milk written on fresh white paper.

He who learns as an adolescent,

As a bee searching for honied nectar.

He who learns as a young adult,

As a butterfly drinking the heart of a flower.

He who learns as a mature adult,

As a lion whose roars echo thru the jungle.

He who learns as an elderly person,

As a barn owl that sees through the night.

He who learns as an old person,

As indelible ink on a scroll of parchment.

He who has died has nothing more to learn,

As invisible ink in a star-filled firmament.

TO WALK THROUGH LIFE, MAKING ERRORS AND NEVER HAVE LEARNED WISDOM...IS A TRAVESTY. BUT TO COME THROUGH IT ALL... AND ACQUIRED WISDOM, IS A BLESSING...THAT GOES BEFORE US UNTO DEATH. THANK YOU, MY FRIEND. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...HIS+INSPIRATIONS

Well stated. The junctions of life are indeed varied and progressive to the obvious end that starts new beginnings. To die is to stop learning, but not to stop existing. Keep it coming.

They tried to teach the walking dead in the comic book and in the TV series. That didn't work either. ;-)

A guess by the comparative statements you are emphasizing the nature of learning for each stage of a man's life. Some of them were a bit of a stretch for me. Lions don't live in jungles. They like savannas where wild game is more plentiful. And I'm not sure that a mature adult has to declare his territory loudly.

Unless you believe in reincarnation. Then you continuously return to life to learn still more lessons in a never ending cycle of renewal.

As we live and learn, we possess the knowledge that we didn't have when we were born. Every step we take in our path is a learning process. When we leave this world we gain the knowledge and the love we have received from others. Nothing else really matters.

I really liked this. The progression of learning and with age comes the wisdom of the ages. It is a shame when you see people who do not want to learn. They do not know what they have missed out on. Well done my friend.
