-- TOUCH – John Herlihy Touch Another sensation The surface of the skin To set rhythm in motion The intimacy of a stroke Waves heart’s shore Touch Another language The gesture never lies The sensation conveys truth More honest than speech To say what is never spoken Touch Another persuasion The journey of a hand An adventure in braille Seeing with the finger Stroking as a feather Touch Another emotion Touched by fear Touched by fire The lightness of kindness The heaviness of sorrow Touch Another need The closeness of a caress The secret of intimacy The loneliness of being untouched The intimacy of being touched Touch Another sound A breath, a breeze settling A whisper, a whistle haunting A brush stroke, delicate, enticing The hush sound of hush, sufficing Touch Another magic Touched by the wind Touched by the light Touched by the silence Touched by the night Touch Another mystery Touched by time Touched by eternity Touched by space Touched by infinite Untouched No other touch An absence with presence Imagined, then longed for Rhythms on the surface Felt by an unseen touch Touch Another dimension Touched by the soul Touched by the spirit Touched by the angels Touched by the Divinity - - - - - Copyright © John Herlihy Wednesday 24 August 2022

I wonder how many people understand how important touch is in our lives. Without it, at least without the kind ones, life can be very, very lonely.

FOR ME...THE NEED FOR ANY KIND OF 'TOUCH' IS ALL SUMMED UP IN YOUR LAST LINE; FOR, INDEED, IT IS THE TOUCH OF...DIVINITY...THAT SATISFIES EVERY YEARNING, WHILE KEEPING AND STRENGTHENING US, THROUGH IT ALL!!! You have wrung every nuance out of touch that can possibly be poetic about. That's what I admired about your poetry. How thorough you are. And the importance of touch is one of the means of communication is outstanding.

Why I only hire female caregivers. Working for me is a hands-on job. ;-) And, please, please remove the surgical gloves.

Truth is forever impossible to argue against. More should read this than might immediately come to mind. Touch, today, has become the tactile response of a keyboard, with personal contact becoming an endangered necessity of humankind. There is much for the poetic and lyrical mind to enjoy with this one.
