-- Still Unfinished --

John Herlihy

Figment of imagination,

Product of incarnation.

Shaped by the softest clay,

To dance in life’s ballet.

Carved from rough stone,

Enveloped in solid bone.

Parts of a life finished,

The hours now diminished.

Sweet childhood long gone,

Adolescence a sounded gong.

Maturity glows as ripened fruit,

Life’s music played on a lute.

Time finally reveals its age,

Thoughts turn wise as a sage.

Rhythms diminish as unresolved,

Bells still sing, a puzzle unsolved.

We pass away, still unfinished,

The ending sudden, finished.

ON MY FIRST READ I TOTALLY DISAGREED WITH YOU IN THAT THE WORD SAYS 'THERE IS NOT REPENTANCE BEYOND THE GRAVE', INDICATING THAT WE MUST GET IT RIGHT ON THIS SIDE OF GLORY. BUT THEN, LOOKING AT IT IN THE ASPECT FROM WHERE YOU ARE COMING...I CERTAINLY CAN AGREE IN THAT WE ARE STILL UNFINISHED BECAUSE...WHEN WE PASS AWAY WE STILL HAVE THE JUDGEMENT OF HEAVEN OR HELL TO FACE. IT IS AFTER THE JUDGEMENT...WE WILL BE ENTIRELY FINISHED. SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT...THANKS FOR SHARING, JOHN. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...HIS+INSPIRATIONS.

You anticipate a lute, me some raw jazz blues. But, you may be selling your perception short by not mentioning writers, musicians, and artists of many disciplines, and their work, especially in the digital cloud age, can live on indefinitely. I'm kinda looking forward to that.
