-- Two Kinds of Happiness --
By John Herlihy
Two kinds of happiness about which I opine,
One kind being mundane, the other sublime.
Some forms of happiness only flicker then fade,
Another happiness on shores of eternity wade.
We all know the happiness that comes and goes,
A sense of pleasure arrives that everyone knows.
Uninvited and unexpected, yet serves its moment,
To quickly depart, no possibility of postponement.
A kind of happiness that everyone comes to dread,
Knowing in arriving, it soon takes its leave instead.
Like a candle that burns brightly down on its wick,
Soon sniffed out, like the sound of the clock’s tick.
A job well done brings a sure sense of satisfaction,
To blow away in the wind as a form of retraction.
Money, fame, success, passing wind that is fleeting,
How alarming in a transitory cycle ever repeating.
Yet another happiness exists that draws a clear line,
Enduring happiness to fuel human feelings sublime.
A happiness ever present that we rely on as a must,
A happiness rooted in feelings for the Divine Trust.
Each happiness never to compete, never intertwine,
One kind being mundane, the other purely sublime.
We know the earthly happiness we always deemed,
One eternal happiness is what we always dreamed.
True happiness blooms a white sympathy flower,
So eternal in its moment, so infinite in its power.

PS
Praying for that eternal happiness, is one of the most
important endeavors, we can ever make. Love your views
on happiness John, you are smart enough to know which ones
are transitory and which ones remain. I like that. :)
Sometime I'm just happy doing mundane things like pulling weeds from flowers with my hands in the dirt in my mind relaxed from all thoughts, altogether. Smelling the fresh earth overturned, the birds singing behind my back without a shirt on feeling the hot sun and loving it.
The best things in life are free and all the rest are just temporary diversions. Believe it or not, near the end I will be very happy to die rather than tend to all my old age ailments anymore.
