-- Secrets of the Wind --
By John Herlihy
What secrets does the air contain,
Imagine what the wind makes plain.
Over mountains and in valleys, rife,
Air as the breath and spirit of life.
The air everywhere, yet always unseen,
Still, the leaves on tree limbs make it seen.
The air wears a cloak in hiding, invisible,
The rage of a stormy sea makes it visible.
The air everywhere, yet mostly unheard,
Offering lift to the wings of a soaring bird.
The air nowhere, yet its caress tenderly felt,
As loving and intimate as a perfume smelt.
Winter breath visible as snowy white,
Summer wind as gentle as a quiet night.
Spring breath arrives with its warm embrace,
Autumn leaves trace a smile on earth’s face.
Wind arrives a stranger, to become a guest,
Always on the prowl with little time for rest.
The wind in the grasslands, wind in the heather,
Wind as the breath of life that lives forever.
