-- The Art of Wondering --

by John Herlihy

,

The art of wondering seeks its mark,

Unsettled, uncertain, unsure to tell.

Ready for an adventure, listen, hark,

Found in the touch of a magic spell.

The art of imagining knows no bounds,

Dreamy, misty-eyed, keen to set forth.

Silence awaiting the invasion of sounds,

Full of emotions from sadness to mirth.

The art of asking tight walks a fine line,

Questioning all that we need to know.

The answers required be delicate, fine,

Seeds in the garden of knowing to sew.

The art of seeking leads everywhere,

Resolved to leave no stone unturned.

What we seek may be found anywhere,

Every step along the way being earned.

The art of longing as from a height fell,

The beating of the heart felt in breath.

Breathlessly climbing from a deep well,

Yearning as a matter of life and death.

The art of finding leads to discovery,

The arrow finally finds the bullseye.

Swept away the puzzle of mystery,

Satisfaction found in a simple sigh.

The art of belonging closes the circle,

No longer left out as a bleached bone.

The bosom of inclusion as a miracle,

Belonging means never again alone.

A exploration of the arts of the mind, showing its versatility. Well penned.

I don't think longing is an art. It seems more like an emotion.

An interesting piece. Purposing to wonder though seems to me a bootless pursuit. Leaving no stone unturned (as you posit) also seems a bit futile, because then "the art of seeking" becomes an intellectual pursuit. Wandering unexpectedly into wonder, prayerfully or naively, and being satisfied with what you are given, seems not so much an art as it does a personal empowerment. Another seeker seeking similarly (as you) will turn over stones that you never did, and be given insights that you were never given, making anyone's understanding of anything, subjective, incomplete, and part of a greater whole. A unique contention, John, that became a philosophical conundrum for me. HNY
