-- The Right Regrets -- by John Herlihy Oh, that I may die with the right regrets, Not just all the things that everyone forgets. That I could not fill more all the empty hours, That I did not appreciate more the spring flowers. That I didn’t allow to flourish feelings of despair, That I didn't respond more to the urge of prayer. That I didn't realize timidity held a rare power, That I didn't stand brave rather than just cower. That I didn't pursue all the mysteries that inspire, That I didn't banish at once any of my thoughts dire. That I didn't value more the smile of my dearest friend, That I didn’t fully realize that all this would finally end. Who can list completely the things they truly regret. I find your reference to there being "right" regrets interesting. I never realized that I could have "right" regrets until you introduced the concept. I have a lot of regrets, as most people do. Some have the potential to be paralyzing if I was to let them be so. But the others, such as you spoke of here, can be springboards and catalysts to doing a better job of making those regrets less regretful at the ends of our lives.

Interesting how you would differentiate between regrets and those that are "right." But I did discern a thoughtful list of regrets that most of us have in common. Forgetting all of them is probably one of the biggest fears that anyone has. Whether it be dementia or Alzheimer's, it is feared the most.

Forgetfulness can be humorous or it can be dangerous. But it's probably best as we age that we forget the worst and remember vividly what was really good in our lives like you have� Especially during your travels, written down so well.
