-- Wishing to be Lost --
by John Herlihy
Wishing to be lost,
At ease in the mist.
A snowflake amid frost,
By the cold night kissed.
Wishing to be uncertain,
Doubt keeps one guessing.
Always lifting a curtain,
To discover life’s blessing.
Wishing to be imperfect,
Content just as we are.
To aspire to be perfect,
Looking skyward from afar.
Wishing to be gone,
Having just arrived.
Something feels wrong,
The surroundings contrived.
Wishing to be missed,
Feeling lost then found.
Under blue skies kissed,
One true moment profound.
Wishing to be far,
Longing to be near.
Near as a distant star,
Pierced by its spear.
Wishing for a sense of ease,
Finding ease in things hard.
After the storm a gentle breeze,
Cooling the burnt ember charred.
Wishing for the unseen,
What we see but a veil.
To know what things mean,
Visions of another world prevail.
Wishing to be there,
Arrived at one’s goal.
The journey starts here,
In the heart of the soul.
