-- Today Is the Day --
by John Herlihy
When I go to bed at evening’s end, I think:
Today wasn’t the day.
I settle in to rest as my hopes slowly sink,
My head on the pillow, I humbly lay.
Sometimes at evening’s end, I think:
Today was a terrible day.
The worst happened and my heart did sink.
Tomorrow will be another day.
When I wake up in the morning, I think:
Today is the day.
Ready for anything, my visions on the brink,
A tree grows in the heart of the day.
All the morning long, I think:
Today is the day, today is the day.
A never-ending day breaking open a link,
Liberating the day into the day.
Moving thru the day, I don’t much think:
The day is as it should be, another day.
Busy with activity, with a nod and a wink,
I go about my business, the kids at play.
The morning gives way to the afternoon,
The day’s shadows lengthen into dusk.
Wind sweeps the earth with its broom,
Leaves drip wet, tree bark smells of musk.
As night shadows make way, I think,
The day is almost done.
At twilight, the eyes of the earth blink,
I feel I have something won.
And so the rhythms of our lives play on,
We awaken, fill out days, lay down to rest.
Sad sweet melodies have moved the day along,
Tomorrow, like every day, blessed.

It seemed to be some invitation for Armageddon to come and save you from some unknown concern.
But I'm probably wrong.
