The Divine Prism

by John Herlihy

I love to see the morning sun arise,

The day begins as a glorious surprise.

Dawn light offers fresh promise to the day,

The sun chases the darkness of night away.

A few brief moments, the dawn as prelude,

The day itself passing by as mere interlude.

I hate to see the evening sun go down,

The day done, the horizon wears a frown.

A fiery sunset offers dramatic ending to day,

The blaze of colors the day’s body to slay.

The sun slips away as if to some back alley,

But not without offering this Grand Finale.

We live in the heart of this universal rhythm,

Seen as shadow and light in the Divine Prism.

And I will never see the prism in the same light or the same way again.
Many thanks.

I see that you favor the light. But without the darkness, there would be no rest from the relentless energy of the sun and no lovely night sights and sounds that I've always adored when out in the night with my good night vision and accentuated hearing to overcome the darkness.

Lovely depiction of Nature's light and darkness. I share your appreciations, but have to admit, as much as I too look forward to dawn, I enjoy the darkness of night immensely, as it feels for me, and possibly many others, a time when solitude, quietness and personal reflection takes hold and usually delivers one or more surprises. I guess what I'm saying, at least for me, the sun and darkness are a pair of enlightening sources and I cherish both. Your take is not wrong, just different. Kudos.
