Happy Tears

by John Herlihy

In the time I have remaining,

Only broad smiles, happy tears.

All sorrows and miseries forsaking,

That have occurred across the years.

At the end of each hour of every day,

I look forward to one more tomorrow.

A few more hours in a world at play,

A little more time given to me on borrow.

On borrow with a promise to give back,

My heart-felt feelings of reverence and awe.

For all of the insights that before I did lack,

What I took notice of, all the things I saw.

All the sweet sorrows, all the happy tears,

That pierce our hearts with their little spears.

As there lies before us another tomorrow,

Another day for happiness, another for sorrow.

I AM SURE, IF GIVEN A CHOICE, MOST WOULD CHOOSE HAPPY TEARS. BUT LIFE RARELY GIVES US A CHOICE, THUS...TEARS OF HAPPINESS AND TEARS OF SORROW, ARE ALL A PART OF LIVING. THANKS JOHN. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...HIS+ INSPIRATIONS.

I can relate to your thoughts in this poem. Each new day is a Blessing to be thankful for and to enjoy as much as possible. I love the picture you chose, elephants and cats are my favourite animals, both are full of fun, empathy and personality.

We are all on borrowed time. I realized mine when I was 20.

And our legacies will be determined by how much we took and how much we gave back. Your poem suggest the latter.

Both of us write a great deal about the waning days of our lives, but as you so often give us, this spirit of looking forward to another day for happiness, another for sorrow, is such a strong motivation for reflections, as you have done in this piece. Yes, many people complain about age invading them. You and I marvel at how much creativity and imagination are left to write about... even in these perilous times. Well spoken. Thank you for posting.
