The Weight of Things by John Herlihy the weight of a feather falling heavy with dew deep into the heather the weight of the world on my shoulders heavy as boulders the weight of a smile as light in the night glowing in moonlight the weight of a frown the face turned down the intent profound the weight of a breath drawn into one's core before breaking on shore the weight of a word as heavy as the hour as light as a flower the weight of a voice as soft as a whisper as loud to be heard the weight of a secret light with promise heavy with solace the weight of fear surrounded by night seeking respite the weight of nothing feeling as something wishing to be anything the weight of something just one more thing wishing to be nothing the ways of patience filling the hour with its power the weight of kindness feeling as a feather in all kinds of weather the weight of a debt knowing it's wrong feeling oh so strong the weight of being right as right as rain familiarity in the refrain as light as a smile as heavy as a sigh as light as hello as heavy as goodbye - - - - - Copyright © John Herlihy Sunday 28 September 2025

The sense of Now and Later are interlaced throughout this piece and the idea of weight being both physical and mental stand out as each simile is patterned. I especialy connected with the last phrase. Thank you for posting.
