Morning Light
by John Herlihy
There's something about morning light,
Filling the essence of the day
Expelling all the darkness of the night
Virgin light with volumes to say
Dawn light sent forth as a breath
Into the fading night to blow,
The emerging day at its birth,
Pulling the rest of the day in tow
Dawn as overture to the sunrise itself,
The sun pours forth its light as cream
Gathering together its forces as wealth
Shining on trees and grass its light beam
Half the earth bespeckled with dewy light,
As dawn birds of the morning take flight.
