Envoys of Light

by John Herlihy

When you see the stars each night,

You hardly pay them any attention.

You never think you will lose them,

You never think about missing them.

Evocative stars, they are always there,

Lodged in heaven whispering a prayer.

Every night stars the night sky adorn,

If a star disappears, then another born.

But what if these enclaves of light,

Appeared once in a hundred years.

Humanity would the sight implore,

Once a century this sight to adore.

Hearts beat the tune of this miracle,

By night mystery always concealed.

Once to see mystery at its pinnacle,

At night starlight finally be revealed.

When you rarely do see something,

You fear to miss it when it comes.

In missing it, never again to know,

A necklace of stars as falling snow.

Cascading thru ramparts of heaven,

Our companions as celestial brethren.

When I look into the starlit night sky,

I see a thousand years of light pass by.

,

These angels of God as envoys of light,

Whispering mysteries in the dark night.

Let not the stars to pass by, take care,

Listen to this message of divine prayer.

The stars are not strangers of the night,

They serve as angelic messengers of light.

Guardians of a divine secret in the heart,

Rare symbols of beauty raised to fine art.

At our own risk and peril, we take no notice,

As in a moonlit pond lies an exquisite lotus.

Every night they appear, vision of pure light,

Travel great distance to impart their insight.

Oh, the noble north star and all stars of night,

To shine on humanity to their endless delight.

Not a night marks your arrival without delay,

Striking the midnight hour mystery to convey.

The stars have their destiny and so also do we,

They up there and we down here for all to see.

Stars for whom the darkness of night doth die,

While down upon earth, sparks of starlight lie.

STARS ARE GOD'S WAY OF REASSURING US THAT HE IS STILL WITH US, WATCHING OVER US. AMEN. WONDERFUL WORK, SO ENJOYED. THANK YOU. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...HIS+INSPIRATIONS

It is no wonder that the first science was astronomy. When history was first written, scholarly people had already charted the heavens for thousands of years. Stars have a permanent about them that those who studied them learned. They last an average of 8 billion years and the light from them reaches us from thousands of years before. We are seeing them from the past. Why they are so consistent and different from the planets and moons.

It's easy to wax poetic when one is in a place where you can see the stars. But it's getting harder and harder with all of the light pollution. Where I live I rarely see the stars. Partly because I don't get outside and partly because the light of a city from Houston makes 90% of the stars disappear in the sky.
