The Mask

This poem is about being yourself and not putting on a facade for others.

 

The mask that hides me or
so I thought
The mask shows the world something other than my thoughts
The mask that gave me a false sense of hope
It is there so that you move on about your journey
I don’t want you to see who I am because it does not fit what you think of me
This mask has me doing things that
I am not ready to be
When placed in different circumstances,
the mask does not reveal the true me
To be able to be free from the mask
that holds on to me
To reveal the parts of me that I try to hide
from you so you won’t see
The mask is what I wear,
so I don’t have to be me
