A solitary walk in the deep forest

On a December’s day towards dark

Wondering what marvels I might see

Perhaps a rabbit or a playful meadow lark

As I crest a steep snow covered hill

I see her poised there peering at me

And what a real beauty she truly is

My wandering soul now fills with glee

I very quickly stop in my tracks

She stands silently in the snow

It seems that neither one of us

Is in a very big hurry to go

I stand gazing into her eyes

She stands peering into mine

She is truly a very regal beauty

A creature of the wood divine

We both stand there for several minutes

Then she slowly turns and goes her way

A memory now forever etched in my mind

Of a real woodland beauty I met yesterday

I truly hope and pray that she fares well

And that our paths will cross again one day

This very regal woodland beauty of the forest

Our chance encounter uplifting in so many ways
