They had been the best of friends

Oscar the Dog, and Arthur the Cat

They had truly been inseparable

There is absolutely no doubt of that

Very sadly, 18-year old Arthur recently died

This charming old cat buried in a backyard grave

And now, very grief-stricken Oscar, the lonely dog

Went out and dug up his friend Arthur, so very brave

The next morning, their humans found them both

In the once cozy warm bed they had both shared

Oscar had spent the night embracing his old friend

Their astonished human family now wept and stared

Many human beings claim that animals have no feelings

I believe they form loving bonds, just as deep as we do

Old Arthur has now been re-buried, and Oscar mourns

He will endure lots of pain before his grieving is through

Oscar’s owners said, “He had managed to climb out through the cat flap in the night, obviously with the intent to get Arthur back. Bearing in mind that Arthur was a huge cat, Oscar must have used all the strength he could muster.

Then Oscar pulled Arthur into their basket and went to sleep next to him. Arthur’s coat was gleaming white the next morning. Little Oscar had obviously licked his best friend clean.”
