Third in the ‘Ed’ Series,

‘When We Ancient Eds Were-’

My Photo Albums Go Back a Long Ways,

And a Fond Memory or Two, They Always Stir

“Leprechauns, castles, good luck, and laughter,

Lullabies, dreams, and love ever after;

Poems and songs, with pipes and drums,

A thousand welcomes, when anyone comes!”

An Old Irish Saying

Alas, when dear old Santa Claus kicked us out

For being terrible Elves, at the cold North Pole

Our brilliant Brother Edvard quickly proclaimed

“Pee Wee and Jersey, to old Ireland, we’ll now go!”

“To Ireland?” cried our brother Jersey Ed

“What the hell are we gonna do over there?”

“Now, don’t be such an Ed idiot, Jersey Brother,

In Ireland, there are Ed Leprechauns everywhere!”

And even though Jersey and I weren’t too sure

We went along with Brother Edvard’s crazy plan

We hitched a ride on an old decrepit sailin vessel

And before we knew it, we had set foot in old Ireland

“So what the heck do we do now, wise old Brother Edvard?”

“Why, we borrow us some green clothes; it’s not so very hard!

Then we prance around, up and down these green country lanes,

Proclaimin that we’re Ed Leprechauns, you two Ed Lame Brains!”

“OK! I think I follow your plan so far!” yelled old Jersey Ed,

"But we really gotta get us some food, too, and find us a bed!”

So we snuck into a small Irish community

And we stole some mighty fine green clothes

And everything might have worked out all right

Except for old Jersey Brother Ed’s ravenous nose

He just could not resist stealin a big pink pig, and some bread,

And the Irish lawmen very quickly apprehended, we three Eds

And after spendin a few months in an old Irish jail,

The Constable got a most interesting letter in the mail:

“Greetings from the North Pole,

This is your old friend, Santa Claus;

I’ve enclosed bail for those three crazy Eds,

Not Very Affectionately Signed, Their Old Boss.”

So, we three Eds were quickly let out of their jail

And deported, and told to never, ever, come back

Alas, our days as Leprechauns were very short-lived

And to this day, I still wish my name was Pee Wee Jack

But oft in dreams I wander,

To green old Ireland again;

I feel her arms a-huggin' me,

As when she held me back then.

And I hear her voice a -hummin'

To me, as in those golden days of yore;

When she used to rock me so gently asleep,

Just inside that cozy old Irish jailhouse door.

And a Happy St. Paddy’s Day,

To One and All

Oh, poor Eds...deported ye'd be? Surely you landed in the wrong part of Ireland! And great leprechauns you'd have made...

(wonder where they are off to next?)

Ah Dear Brothers Ed
come back to the Emerald Isle,
we'll dance a jig, lift a jug
and reminisce a while.
We'll sneak you in and
the Constable will 'ner know it.
If Jersy Ed don't steal a pig

May your blessings outnumber
The shamrocks that grow,
And may trouble avoid you
Wherever you go.
