Music: All Is Gone
Once upon a time, for many centuries
These cats had thrived, in our nation
They’ve now been declared ‘Extinct’
Joining so many others, in obliteration
All of eastern America had been their home
All the way from Canada, down to Mexico
But sadly, like so many other animal species
We forced them out – they had nowhere to go
They were placed on ‘The Endangered List’ back in 1973
Numerous conservationists hoped they’d make a comeback
Although some insist that a handful still do survive, somehow
Our government says of this ancient being, we’ve seen the last
They had been North America’s largest indigenous cat
Majestic creatures – weighing over one hundred pounds
Once upon a time, this vast continent contained thousands
Some of us mourn the fact that today, not one can be found
We officially refer to them as the Eastern Cougar
The Catamount, Panther, Puma, and ‘Ghost Cat’
Just this week, they were officially declared ‘Extinct’
And soon, others will join them – no doubt about that
The very last American Jaguar was killed last year in Arizona
The few surviving Florida Panthers today, hang on by a thread
As I pen this, Timber Wolves are being shot down from the sky
And it won’t be long, before all the Predators except us, are dead
And today, I’m reminded of an encounter years ago,
When I saw one in deep grass, on the edge of a lake;
He so sadly looked like a ghost, so miserably all alone,
And his solitary image now haunts me, asleep or awake.
Once upon a time, for centuries,

Ghost Cat was just declared ‘Extinct,’
Joining too many others, in obliteration.

that have ever inhabited the earth are extinct..
nuff said.
