-My Latest Spiritual Journey-

“Reading about nature is fine,

But if a person walks in the woods and listens carefully,

He can learn more than what is in books,

For they speak with the voice of God.”

George Washington Carver

I drive north, for hour upon hour

Until all traces of both civilization

And the man-made blacktopped road

Completely vanish beneath my truck tires

I arrive at my destination and exit my vehicle

Soon hiking down an overgrown forested trail

Passing a tiny, magnificent, old babbling brook

In the direction of a crystal clear wilderness lake

I am serenaded by scores of woodland birds

Who joyously sing out in anticipation of dawn

And who somehow instinctively seem to know

Why I have now journeyed here to their home

I listen to their wondrous melodies as I walk

And now, I inhale the air as deeply as I can

Soon, the fresh, pine-scented, northwood air

Revitalizes both my lungs and my weary soul

I reach the lakeshore just before dawn

Find a large flat rock to perch on

Breathe deeply once more

And now, I anxiously wait

Within only a few minutes, I hear the magnificent sound

That I have journeyed this extremely great distance to hear

It is the unmistakable, mysterious, ancient, northwood call

That has always filled my heart and soul with such utter joy

It is the very first new dawn call

Of a black and white plumed loon

Far off on the shadowy lake surface

So very lovingly calling out to its mate

Soon, a second eerie wail now reaches my attentive ears

It is the loon’s lifelong mate, very lovingly calling it back

Through the mist, and the shadows, and the advancing light

Of not only this morn, but of a million other glorious mornings

At this precise moment, in both time and space

I feel closer to God, and to all His wondrous Creation

Than I’ve ever felt have in any man-made church building

And this magnificent magical moment for me, is heaven sent

I love His church, the one He created all around us ... now, if we'd only take time to thank Him and worship His majesty ... no, mankind has to muck it up. :( Well done, Ed, this, my new favorite of yours.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

To be amid the wonders of his mighty hand, is something that we too often don't take time to appreciate, let alone ponder the marvels..This write outlines all that he is, all that you are, and all that you are together as creator and creation. Wonderful Ed, missed reading you xx Cherry

yourself, where you belong
and sense of oneness and belonging

"The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they display knowledge." He is seen in all the works of His hands, and heard in the voices of His creations.
A wonderful writing, Ed. Some would have said, "I love to hear the loons." You made it into a quest, and invited us along to share the beauty and majesty of your journey. Thank you!
