Left in a high-rise apartment building
For two months, with no food or care
Left to perish, by uncaring human beings
More and more left behinds, now out there
This time, it was two abandoned canines
A four month old puppy, now barely alive
And, an emaciated, one-year old, terrier mix
Two more innocent beings, we have left behind
Last week, the one-year old canine made a daring leap
From her prison on the apartment building’s third floor
She broke both her hip, and one of her legs, in the fall
A police officer found her, lying by the building’s door
He called animal rescuers, and they’ve named her ‘Miracle’
They also found her prison partner, they’ve named ‘Gracie’
Their former owners have left town – no forwarding address
What more and more of us are doing to pets, truly sickens me
Miracle has undergone surgery, to repair both her hip and her leg
Little Gracie is still too weak to stand, and she’s in intensive care
If you suspect that there’s an abandoned pet in your neighborhood
Please call the authorities – every day, more and more are out there
And if you would like to help America’s many left behinds today
Please contact an animal rescue group, in your neck of the woods
They are now all being overwhelmed, with abandoned dogs and cats
They all need donations and adopters, so they can continue to do good
