“I am only one, but still I am one.

I cannot do everything,

But still I can do something;

And because I cannot do everything,

I will not refuse to do

The something that I can do.”

Edward Everett Hale

A bitterly frigid January day

A phone call about another stray

“This one is living out on a golf course,

Do you think you can help her some way?”

And soon, I found myself out on that golf course

The wind chill this morning, horrifically below zero

I soon saw her at a great distance, searching for food

Then she saw me, and she quickly vanished in the snow

A kind man showed me where she was sleeping at night

In a small clump of trees, attempting to ward off the wind

“She is afraid of everyone; she must have been dumped here;

The poor thing is now starving and freezing; it’s a damned sin.”

So I set up and baited one of my dog traps in that clump of trees

And now, I waited in my truck, praying that she would soon return

Within a half hour she did, hungrily smelling the food trail I had left

And soon, she was in my trap, devouring the sustenance she yearned

When we reached the animal hospital, she did not want to leave my truck

On this bitterly cold day, its inside warmth to her must have been heavenly

I had to pick her up, and carry her inside, so she could receive medical help

This abandoned orphan, now in from the cold, that I decided to name ‘Jackie’

“The question is not ‘Can they reason?’

Nor ‘Can they talk?’ but rather,

‘Can they suffer?’”

Jeremy Bentham

Words cannot give this story justice. One can only imagine trying to survive in brutally cold weather.

May you have peace, blessings and the love of Christ for all you do.

This reminded me of the time we had our mixed breed, very smart, dog with us at our grandparents farm and decided to go hunting. It was about five below zero when we ventured out across the snow-covered fields to the woods below to hunt. Tippy, named after his white tipped feet and tail, eagerly followed along.

After a couple of hours we found no game to shoot and returned back to the warmth of the farmhouse. We were very upset when we saw that Tippy's feet were bleeding. But he made it back okay without serious injury because he didn't limp.

As you emphatically present it, the winter months have got to be the hardest for both the rescued and the rescuer. Once again, my hat is off to you.

Any animal, no matter its species. If it's been domesticated, it will just curl up and die if left out in the wild. Dog's are so domesticated that they are totally trusting. Once betrayed do they still trust?

Look at that beautiful little soul...
Again it never ceases to amaze me the unkindness of mankind...
If they must rid themselves of their unwanted angel why oh why
can't they at least take them to a shelter! This always mystifies me...

Wonderful picture you have drawn of the sequence of events...

Would it be, the former owner be abandoned like this, or maybe was, to know the suffering, or not, but yes they suffer, and a million cries go to heaven every day, from pets abused and abandoned, and the little wolf pupps in the wild for their poisend mother, or any other sweet innocent creature, Heaven only hears, because of Angels like you Ed, bless you!
