one accident, two girls,
too young;
clean break for one--
no suffering,
just a catapault from this life
to the next.
(her parents tote the load
of her absence,
listen for her steps,
look blankly at her empty bedroom
But she herself
has a new address
and flawless immortality.
the other, waking from a drugged dream,
finds a crushing loss
rehabilitation
guilt
she was the driver.
our tears
prayers and anxiety
are now for her
for wholeness
to envelope her
body and mind.
for her, there is no
clean break,
but a fracture requiring years
of mending
at the hands of a skilled Physician.
life snuffed out and ended in a blink of an eye.
God be with all involved.
