Lay Me Softly

by J. Allen Wilson — Read all 1,629 poems by J. Allen Wilson

Friday, April 9, 2004

Lay me softly upon the window of your mind,

And whisper to me gently that you are mine.

Tell me of better days and a thousand tomorrows

And caress me wildly with your tender blue eyes,

Kiss me now, and take away the burdens of my sorrows.

For my days are made of silent tears,

Which like river’s flow, from approaching fears.

Shelter me now in the safety of your loving arms

Cease in me the thought of impending harm,

And hold me close like I have never been held,

For the visions of darkness have returned from where they once dwelt.

So lay me softly upon the window of your mind.

For I fear the night as well as the day,

and the destruction that comes my way.

For I do see….what is consuming me, and where unto it leads.

For it is a path that ends in….

Darkness…and sorrow…it is a way without hope…a road of no tomorrow,

A rocky way, which lends itself to visions of total destruction

One, which portends the approaching, storm.

So lay me softly.

Allen I just adored this piece, and I'm not even kiddin around ! The whole idea of being laid on a window of the mind was so enchanting to me that my mind immendiatly followed suit and followed you there, that nugget or portal where yu proceeded to do so much more beautiful talking. This one caught me sice I was so recpetive to that idea of the window of the mind, I loved it Al
