Hate..Such An Ugly Word

by J. Allen Wilson — Read all 1,629 poems by J. Allen Wilson

Just a little ramble of mine...for I witness much of this almost everyday, and my heart grows heavy from what I see as an injustice...an injustice that has been difficult at best...to right. Maybe my attempts are but waste of time...its just that there is so much sadness out there...for in the reality of it all..."I would like to teach the world to sing...in perfect harmony...I'd like to buy the world a coke...and keep it company....~Love...its the real thing~

You came to this land

Still bearing the scars

from the taskmasters hand.

Little or no English do you speak,

Yet, still with hope in your heart

You work for happiness and peace.

For there are few here, that truly understand,

The enormity of the oppression you escaped

when you fled your homeland.

For all they see

and all they feel

is their own bigotry and hate,

a hate that pours like poison

from their black and frightened hearts.

For they despise you

And try to defile you

for your dreams.

And just simple dreams they are

Dreams of making a home

dreams being free.

It hurts me to know,

That so freely my friends

let their hate show.

for they do not even try to understand,

that you are just like them,

that you are a human being

and not the dog they claim you to be.

All this hate,

Because their jobs you took, they claim.

But let me tell you my little foreign friend,

They quit those same jobs…again and again.

For they are too tough, you see…

For those of us reared in the land of the free.

I can not tell you how often I have heard,

"man, I'm not doing this kind of work"

Yet you my little foreign friend,

will labor a toil like there is no end.

Never once have I heard you complain,

that this job is too much and causes you pain.

So I will take this moment to wish you my best,

for you have proven yourself worthy of this quest.

I was so moved by this, Allen. I, too, see this regularly. And there are moments when i'm suprised by my own subtle judgments (nowhere near to hate, but certainly nothing to be proud of)... Glad you penned this. Take care,

Dear J Allen,

Never believe that your efforts are a waste of time, words are a mighty tool, and spread far and wide, never give up, and besides I know there are many who share your views. Thank you for sharing this very powerful write.

Warm hugs

Isn't this the truth! We born Americans ( and I speak for a few...thank goodness!) are too lazy to handle minial chores but the energetic newcomers will tackle any job because they taste the freedom in this country . There is always a lesson in life. There's always someone to learn from too. Thanks Allen. I do enjoy your poetry always.

Wonderful work and great message. It is about making life wonderful for ourselves, no matter where we began our lives.

Hatred only resides in those who thinks more of others and less of themselves. To each person his/her own worth. We are all equal in this world. Job opporutnities are many, some choose to do them, and some choose to lie down and complain and then hate others for doing the job that they didn't want to do. Of course, the thoughts are insane, much is the hatred.

Good thought-provoking write.

Great work, I must agree hate is a very "unpretty" word. It's most pwerful though. Keep up the great job.
