Overtime Be Gone

by J. Allen Wilson — Read all 1,629 poems by J. Allen Wilson

Just venting a little after reading the new overtime laws that are being pushed by our government and big business. Can't see as how they will help me...since I put in 25 to 30 hours a week in overtime...cut that out and I am still working the time but loosing about 30% of my pay...Just don't seem right ya know.

Overtime Be Gone

I'm working night and day for the Man,

Struggling and striving under the new government plan.

Hour upon hour over forty…I give to them for free.,

all this and all that, just so he can pay for his condo in Tahiti.

Even still, when I do complain,

All I get from the top is the same.

For their words ring loud and clear,

And they speak it so that all can hear.

For what they do have to say….

Is…" if you don’t like it here, you don’t have to stay."

However, to this I will confess,

I stay on and take their abuse,

as the economy is a real mess.

For through four years of near zero job growth,

The best I could hope for would be pizza hut…making pizza dough.

Oh cant you see what the government and the Man have done for me,

They have me running and jumping, and now over forty for free,

Oh running and jumping through greed's naughty hoop,

So that they in their "let them eat cake" state,

Can forever remain in their evil gain.

And just think…

I just thought I was in the loop.

Life is a grind Allen...we just have to make the best of it...and try and remain positive and optimistic...to keep making our dough go as far as it can...and looking for the opportunities to strengthen our baseline...by the Grace of God.

LOL, I like Jude's philosophy here :)

It's a pain alrighty, sometimes feels like your a mouse in a wheel.
I hear your frustration, and empathize sincerely, great write.

Here's a story that might make you chuckle:
The leader of our labour party ( here in OZ) recently signed himself into hospital under MEDICARE, generally used by ppl with naught in monetry means, Ok, so he's waiting to be seen, by the doctors, thinking he's funny exploiting the public system with all of his money.
Doctors overlook him somehow, and he was diagnosed with pancreatosis~eventually, but not before being left in a corridor along with all the other patients, who havent a cracka either.
Now he knows how it feels for the battlers, the little ppl, and if he makes our next Prime Minister, maybe we just might get a little empathy, you never know!
It cheered me up, hope you get the same, peace be with you mate.
