Will We Ever Learn?

Will We Ever Learn?

Endless journeys tinker of agonized souls.

Filling the skies above

and the bowels of earth below.

Fitful, restless spirits

Cry out from their infinities plight

They chase false dreams

Led on by mans faltering schemes.

Trapped now are they

to a veiled and dogmatic time.

Children lost of sacred heart,

divine visions of old gray men

who, but now wander aimlessly

in the sighing… crying dark.

Women of forgotten virtue,

Cajole sisters mired in sin,

for time is torn and broken,

as new and perilous journeys begin.

Laughter rises now from a tepid steam

As naysayers continue in the revelry

of the devils unrelenting dream.

Blind and crippled priest,

Now line the sanctuary halls,

where mosaics speak in tongues

detailing a nations fall.

In this place

Where we once sought Gods face

candles no longer burn.

Yet still we cry out in hate

Oh Lord…

Will we ever learn?

for time is torn and broken

you have a way, Allen, of planting such incredible truths in each of your poems (above is just one example that grabbed me here). thank you for awakening us to what matters most and for conveying a sense of urgency for change. may we each ponder what we might do to be a part of the needed change. Hate will never become an unused emotion unless we allow it too, and that is bloody not likely, I am afraid, although the thought will always be there as long as one poet, like yourself, does keep the flame of love lit...Ed & Rufuz

Allen,
Humans seem to be quite the stubborn species...You've asked a million dollar question..to which there seems to be no answer too.
Excellent write.

"Will We Ever Learn?" is a poetic siren warning and pondering; delivering a profound message on a Scroll written with an onyx stylus.

Excellent question, one that I'm afraid to answer in the negative because it would be true. We will only learn when, collectively, our first thought is of Him and, sadly, that is getting more and more unlikely. Superb poem as always J Allen...
