Wall Of Indifference

I have given freely of my heart,

I have born of my very soul.

Yet it has all been for naught,

In this world so foolish, and cold.

There is so much hurt, and too much pain,

For wherein we live in the revolving madness

Of a world gone silently insane.

No longer can I stand for my eyes to see,

All the death, and destruction, which surrounds me.

So I think it best to build me a wall,

For I cannot save the world from its inevitable fall.

so pray tell, why should I even try?

therefore behind this wall of indifference,

I will be able to… in my self-centered piety…  survive.

Nevermore to cry…nevermore to show grief,

All this can be me…

Yet it will not be…

For even in penning these very thoughts

I envision the many who struggle to live at all cost.

Some yearn just to be free,

Whilst others merely desire another morrow to see.

So if I were to crawl inside my wall of indifference,

And shut out the light that is heaven sent,

Then it would be I who would then surely cry

For having wasted my days on time ill spent.

So you really see…

I really would like to buy the world a coke

And teach it to sing….

For that is.... me.

A moving rally against apathy in the face of the modern world's nearly overwhelming adversities. A beautiful dramatization of the impulse to give in overcome by the will to rise to a powerful challenge.

the pain and suffering in the world is overwhelming ... the spiritual essence of this poem is a sincere desire to help heal its torment with a gesture of kindness ...

Allen you have brought home the results of indifference beautifully! This present era has a plethora of complacent, indifferent, people and we don't need anymore. Glad you aren't joining their ranks!;-)

I agree Retta this is another master by the master that if we do not already share these feelings makes us want to strive to share them. If miles were not so far apart old friend I would take you up on your off so we could share a coke (alas no rum for me no more) and some stories.
