Leah's Lair
Sweet aroma danced like pixies in the Southern midnight air,
As I fell afoul upon the steps of "Little Leah's Lair"
For wafting across my nose held high
Was the tantalizing smells of a homemade peach pie.
With my stomach now a-growling
I fell quickly to my knees and began a-howling,
But not at some silly half wit moon,
No…oh no, I just wanted but to lick the spoon.
Yet "Little Leah" would have none of that,
For she said that like a gentleman, I would behave
And that supper would be ready only after my shower and shave.
So like the wind from a mighty tempest storm
I made my way for my shower and shave
And returned to her all clean and shorn.
I ran quickly to my seat, and I sat up right,
For I was ready for some, serious vittles this night.
Low and behold, what a feast my big eyes did see,
For there before me and the table adorned
was ham and chicken, mashed potatoes and green beans.
In the oven just a few feet away
sat not one but two pies that was sure to make my day.
With the music playing now soft and low
And the dining room dancing in the candles glow,
I began to heap my plate on high
And I ate and I ate until I thought I would cry.
Stuffed now to the gills was I,
filled with golden goodies of Leah's pride.
Unable to move now and too fat to even sigh,
I began to wonder…yes wonder…why.
For Leah has always taken good care of me,
But her cooking here of late is beyond belief,
Then suddenly it occurred to me
That I was being fattened up deliberately.
For without warning, there was a quickening chill in Leah's lair,
As the shrill sound of knives penetrated my mind as they sliced through the air.
Swish swish…oh what a lovely dish said she,
Then whack whack went the steely blade…
right down the middle of my back back.
No…no…not that said I
As she reached for a freezer bag,
six feet long, and three feet wide.
Why…oh why scream I as I sat up aright in my bed.
It was then that it occurred to me….
That it all was just a dream
And that I am gonna have to lay off eating late at night,
All those pineapple casseroles from Leah's Lair filled with cheese.
