Remiss Of Chance

by J. Allen Wilson — Read all 1,629 poems by J. Allen Wilson

Chance comes to us like a whisper in the night, and often we will fail to hear it, for we are with other things too preoccupied. And then…. (whoosh)…its gone, and then the silence returns to remind us where we went wrong.

Remiss Of Chance

 Days of days

Remiss of chance

Prolonged quandary

Within sullen glance

Time evaporates now into silent space

Blurring vistas of memory without a trace.

Nothing is nothing on this invisible plain

For substance is lost in desirous gain.

Driven by greed,

Oblivious to need

Soldiers of fortune

Mount deaths black steed.

For dark angels gather in force,

Shadows cast on misery's shore.

Sorrows dance unto this black trepidation

Leaving a sickness of soul to a silent nation.

Children cry openly now into the putrid night,

As brothers, sisters and lost mothers fade from sight.

Carrions of injustice dance vainly in open mass

As a clawing and gnashing consumes the spirit

of those parlaying deaths chilling task.

Leaders in pretense rise upon every stone

Whilst the dark angels hell

hover over the city already picked to the bone.

Messengers of edict herald the events of the day,

They cry aloud for the dying

They weep openly for life this way.

For it is the days of our days

In which we are remiss of chance

Allen no one does gothic like you it totally captures the mood of the moment! It is outstanding poetry. I hope as Ed does that you are not in too negative a state, though it is understandable with all that is going down around us.Yet, even as we write the dark side we do need to keep the faith and hope alive, inside.Hope all is well Haven't seen you or Leah for awhile!

Love,
Eileen

filled with images and the precise language to capture the strength of those images, Allen. I agree so much, that our window of opportunity is brief and when it is too late we all suffer as humanity grieves its missed opportunity. thanks for this, Dawn

Damn, talk about dark poetry, though I may be misreading this, I like the way it flows, its rhyme is quite there, but it almost denotes some depression from the writer and Al, I don't want to be seeing any depression from you...you have that beautiful lady as part of your life and with that no depression or darkness can befall you that can do any harm...she is your light...& I have not heard anything of late from her talented pen...tell her to get her ass, er, uh, posterior in gear...LOL!
