Dear God...Goodbye

by J. Allen Wilson — Read all 1,629 poems by J. Allen Wilson

My Prologue of a waning chapter in my life, and the last poem for awhile to follow.

To all whom I call friend, and to those I have yet to meet. I come but to say, the time has come for me to for a while, call my journey to the den almost complete. Headaches and pain for almost a month, and a journey to the hospital has taught me much. Though I shall not from the face of the earth vanish, my energies are now in need of another given direction, and though I part for a while from amongst a company of true friends, I did not want to leave without making amends. So to all of those who to me that have been tried and true , who have prayed my well being and that of Leah too. For those of you that have lifted me from the darkness of days, and led me to wisdom into a guiding truth, I just want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart and that you all will be with me in my thoughts always. And to those, to whom I have only had the privilege of a brief but wonderful encounter. I wish you all the best in all your worlds. Yeah, though it is like I said much more that I could have ever imagined has been learned, for as I lay in a silent dream, looking into the mirror of life that encircled my hospital bed, I found an even deeper truth. So to all…until we meet again, I wish you the blessings of peace and of love until the end.
Thank you all for a great two years…Allen

Dear God...Goodbye

She stood there by my side, never failing to meet my need.

I lay there staring at the tile ceiling with fear gripping my trembling heart.

She held my hand, caressed my pain filled face and said I love you Allen.

And it is by this love I have for you that I can truly say, all is well.

I winced at the insertion of the cold sterile IV

and drifted soft as the cool liquid entered my veins.

I watched as wires and tubes and beeping machines

formed a womb around my now still form.

Figures in white busied around with charts in hand,

jotting numbers, and asking questions about my insurance plan.

I looked at my wife, and she smiled that smile

that captured my love so many years ago.

And without speaking she showed me the truth of love.

Just a few feet away and separated by a thin veil,

The rescue squad rolled in an elderly lady from a nearby nursing home.

She moaned in discomfort and pleads for help in Jesus name.

She cried out in fear, she wept in silence alone,

I then looked at my wife Leah and realized my fear was now gone.

I had for weeks feared of myself, about myself, and had became obsessed with self.

Yet, I had it all…I had the love of my wife who never once left my side,

I had the love that she gave forth in her prayers both day and night,

Yet just a few feet away, lay another human being without anyone.

She faced uncertainty, and she cried…oh how she cried.

Yes, I learned much from my hospital stay…I now have meds,

to help ease my pain, and I am now home with the love of my life.

+++++++++++++++++++++++

"Dear God, forgive me of my selfish ways, and thank you for your grace that has enlightened my way. Thank you for giving more love than I deserve in the dedication of my wife. Thank you for making her the woman she is today. For lord, I am but a lowly self serving sinner who has by your hand seen another day.

I pray to thee that you will keep my mind and heart from myself and open my spirit to the true love of giving to all. For God it was through my own pain and suffering that I realized that we derive not our healing through doctors and medicines, but through the true gift of love that you impart on those who are called unto your purpose. I therefore God give myself unto you and your calling that I may too be like the beacon of light that my wife has been for me…and God, The lady next to me in the room at the hospital…though she has no one…I pray that you make your presence known to her this instant…Amen"

I am sad that a fellow Christian is leaving, but I totally understand. I've dealt with chronic pain, hospitals and tests and surgery. You are an inspiration to people who come in contact with you. You share your love of God and your love for Leah. I will continue to pray for the two of you. God bless you. Janet

Allen, you've got to know that you - and Leah - have a place in my heart. my prayers are for your healing and wholeness and the grace and energy to meet whatever comes down your road. I know you will find it. your poetry has often been a touchstone, a mirror of my own questions and striving. walk strong and if you come by this way again that shall be a day of joy indeed. be well, Dawn

Yet, I had it all…I had the love of my wife who never once left my side,

And that is truly a marvelous gift to have, J.Allen - and one you realize is so precious.

Keep the Faith, Blessings to both of you, and regain your peace and strength, my friend.

I agree with Jerry below Allen
Its time for you to take a long sabbatical, and come back to us with your batteries fully recharged !
May the Lord Bless and keep you Allen and Leah !
I too, am certain that we have not seen the last of you with the Grace of God !

Look on the "other" side of this, the side where, instead of gracing Authors Den with your infinite wisdom and desires and wonderment, you can now direct all that energy toward a bit of selfishness. Selfishness because it is you who is the important one here. And your God. And the relationship with Him. Your beautiful Leah will benefit from this new you and she will shine magnificently because she understands that you are fighting to be there for her, just as she is there for you. That is a good thing. Know too, that the folks here at Authors Den are not bashful, those of us who dare to lift up prayers for our fellowmen are soing so now . . . for you and your family. I don't know you very well, but I know you well enough to know that if it is in His realm of possibility, you shall be back with us with a brand new slant on certain things you will have learned while you are on your sabbatical. Much luck to you, J. Allen Wilson.

Allen,
We've written and read many writes here, and I always knew when I read yours they were truly from your heart. I know as well as anyone how illness can change forever the way you look at life and your loved ones, and by the Grace of God, being granted another chance at making things better and right. The talent of writing, is also a gift He has given you, for without his touch, it would only be words thrown together on a blank page. Maybe at this time, you are right, maybe you do need to rest and delve into the arms of the love and healing that only your loved ones and God can supply you, but I also know, that in time, you will feel the need to return to your pen, and when that happens I can only hope and pray that you will return also to us here at the Den.
Allen, I thank you for allowing me the opportunity through the years to have the pleasure of enjoying your many writes, and I will continue to pray for your healing both your body, mind and soul.
God Bless,

Lisa

Allen, coming from a fellow author and poet the words good bye are almost a sin to put together in themselves. To say you will not be joining us any longer here on the den is not only sinly but also a crime against our unique choice of expression. You were, are and always will be a poet. I know your concerns and understand them well, having laid on an identical bed with crash carts and priests and family hovering in the background, only to come to the realization I could do more with my words then with all the money or power in this earth. I will repect your decision old friend and wish you and Leah the best but will also hope you may reconsider.

Al, I refuse to accept the word goodbye and its meaning is harder for me to accept...I had wondered and hoped you were doing well, as I had not heard from you of late...but I knew no matter what, I would at last hear again for you are too ornery to be called back to the Lords house, at least as of yet...Please, please, to a degree stay in touch, you have my email and I would deem it an honor to hear from you occasionally, as someday we WILL meet, hopefully in Tybee, but definitely on this plain of existence...as I doubt we will be together on the same one in the next...;) ED & Rufuz
