Set Free…
Canst thou not see the wane of light from heaven above?
Or hast the spirit of darkness waxed cold thy heart of its love?
How unto this day canst thou not from tender eye see?
With all to that which from burdened soul set free?
Did not thy sun rise to bring to thee a smile upon thy face?
Or hast the wormwoods bitter savors become host to thee in darkness’s gate.
Shall not thy heart mend to the sweetness of loves venerable call?
Or should this night find thee within thine own sepulture lost?
Therefore make haste to search diligently of thy last vestige; hope.
Keep pure thy fleeting words lest thy enemies find reason to gloat.
For thy time is but a soft whisper in the knowing ear of God.
And thy mortal dreams but mere ripples upon heavens pond.
Release now thy spirit to the comfort which comes from above.
Give swift to thy gaping heart the salve of God’s eternal love.
Give now unto Him as He has to thee
And alas become now whole and set free.

And thy mortal dreams but mere ripples upon heavens pond.
Quite profound, and quite good, J. Allen.
