I Dreamt A Dream

I dreamt a dream

I was once so very young and full of so many idealistic dreams.

I remember how I would walk alone in the silent forest and recline by gentle streams.

I would sit on the cool moist ground listen to the trees as they whispered and groaned.

I would then by deft sleight of mind journey a million miles from home.

For you see, I was so young back then, back so long ago when dreams were real.

It was a time back then, a time back when nothing could hinder nor to rob and steal.

Yet now it is unto this day, and through the maddening march of unswerving time.

I find myself no longer buoyant of youth except in the dusty corners of my mind.

Some will now say of this that you are only as young as you feel

They will say that age is irrelevant in the scheme of things and that getting old is no big deal.

Yet to wisdom such as this, they pander to false hope and wish upon a dying star.

For in it they refuse to realize that yesterday was then and tomorrow is still too far.

For though I was once young and full of dreams

Hence now I’m old and understand many things.

I realize that hope is for the youth of today,

I realize that soon even their dreams will too someday pass away.

Yet tonight…I dreamt a dream

Allen, I believe as we age we must continue to dream ... getting old is the loss of creative verve ... when the mind and soul is kept alert through spiritual enlightenment the body ages at a slower pace ... of course, genetics has its effect but clarity of being is the continuation of creativity and preventing it being drained from our souls ...

great introspective and definitive write, Allen ...

This is what comes with age. We do know more but we have not the energy to pursuit it. We have learned from our youthful mistakes but cannot take back the mistake and keep the knowledge.
As the man once said, Youth is wasted on the young. Another saying, We grow too soon old and to late smart.
God Bless,
Lew

It's funny that when one gets older they do seem more wise, when in reality they know no more than previously they thought, they just allow it to come through...E & R

Oh wow! This one made me cry...I too say those words..."Your only as young as you feel" and "age is only a number" but after thinking about it, I find myself saying those words to others...not me when my knee hurts as I walk down the stairs, or when I am stiff and ache when I rise in the mornings...I find myself now saying...I'm just happy to be here. Great write, very smooth flowing read that touched my heart.
Blessings and Merry Christmas,
Joyce Bowling

Some will now say of this that you are only as young as you feel

I will still say it, if I may - and also, Keep Dreaming, and Keep Walking in those marvelous forests - we are never too old for that!
