Alone Is He…Under The Cover Of A Cool Green

by J. Allen Wilson — Read all 1,629 poems by J. Allen Wilson

Many often live their lives with no regard to their fellow man. Selfish in their ways, isolationist in heart, less they come into need. Then they cry foul into the escaping wind. Hear Me…Oh Hear Me…it is a pity, it is such a shame…

Alone Is He…Under The Cover Of A Cool Green

Cool green covers now the former man.
The silence of ages for him now speaks.
Never to his soul comes a lasting peace.
For Foolish was he, in believing he was king.

Mourners now disperse like a blowing wind.
Tears on cool soil evaporate to rise again.
The sun blinks soft from behind dying trees.
Time is no longer measured in angles nor by degrees.

Listless is the moon on the new granites stone.
Epitaphs misery carved testifying he is gone.
Heavens grown black; stars subdued, last hopes flee.
He lies now but a silent memory; forever alone is he.

Spring comes; summer follows and then goes.
Falls chill to a coming winters kill, and still he lies unknown.
Sad it is to see this final state of a lonely man,
for he loved only one, himself separate and aside of God’s plan.

Now here he still lay almost one year to the day.
Weeds sown in life now consume his final home.
No one comes to see this final grievous state of man.
With his plot unkempt, I kneel to remove the chafe by hand.

The suns now setting and I grow cold inside.
I leave a single rose and walk away for the last time.
Alone again is he, the man who thought he was a king.
Alone and cold is he under the cover of the cool green.

Alone and cold is he this one has such a poetic beauty and work moving within the verses J Allen. Apart of God is a life lonely and forgotten.
Message is powerful.

Blessings,
Joselyn

Ashes to ashes and dust to dust
Gone is a king
While the tears
rust.

This is a tender tribute loaded with silent respect.

Susan

Nice write with a wonderful message within...I heard someone say once that one could tell the kind of life we lived by the crowd at the funeral home when we pass! I had a dear friend who passed away far to early in my thoughts, but God knows best...crowd couldn't describe the people at the funeral home where he lay...it was as a staggering display of friend, colleagues, family and associates...but as I mixed and mingled within this huge crowd of people, all I heard were good remarks and comments describing the life of my friend! This was in 1993 and people still speak of what a great father, friend, and colleague he was...never a negative word only good things...this is how I would like to be remembered too! Your write was very thought provoking and very meaningful...enjoyed this much, I agree with Ed, this is a write that one should read often to serve as a reminder...Great write my friend!

We all go this way, but it is better to of lived a life that people dont forget, and instead of people having to tend weeds on the site, I'd rather push up daisies!

Ty for this

Very well done, J. Allen, wistful but full of insight. Alone in life, even more alone in death -- so very descriptive, a poem to make your readers think, that's for sure.

CJ
