Abstract Faces

Abstract Faces

Steel rails converge; the silver crescent hums silent; conductor draws the final card.

Abstract faces, which have no name, gather beneath dark juggernauts of a tepid rain.

Entities one by one, abandoned and forlorn mesh where forces of stealth lie in shadows made.

All aboard goes the cry; all aboard to all that come, all aboard the last train to nowhere; the day is done.

Old gray men now stumble on the platform revealed, heads hung low to the growing sound.“ Swing low, sweet chariot” … “I was once lost, but now I’m found”

Steam hisses in long white trails; the train to rumble across bounds of the hidden veil.

Dark eyes search the landscape unseen; reflections only mirrored in yesterdays dream.

Hope abandoned at junction forty-one; the silver crescent loses all steam.

Signs ahead reveal the truth, “All hope abandon ye who enter here”

Abstract faces disembark; another conductor draws the final card.

Oh my gosh, Allen, this reminds me of the last time I was in Boston and rode the T from suburbia into town. ..."All the lonely faces, where do the all come from". There was nary a smile nor a hello, only lost souls going about their lives and their business, lost in a quagmire of mundane existance. Pretty tough on one who has those Southern roots and loves to smile and make a new friend no matter where she is. I'm not ready for that slow train to the end...
Love,
Taylor

Al, despite other comments, I like this, made me remember old trains and such...anything written that can invoke happy thoughts and memories is well worth reading again and again... Peace, bro', Ed
