The Longest Goodbye

You took his hand when you heard Him call

You have found your peace on this the longest goodbye.

Your life has been full; your life has been so brief.

Lost are hearts memories stolen from by a most subtle thief..

It was upon your sun weathered skin that age appeared to take its toll.

Yet it was deeper and from within; your very spirit; your soul.

Hope lingered on heavens gentle breeze, yet still it was time to go.

With dreams forsaken and laid to rest, you closed your eyes one last time.

The longest goodbyes, to this we shall know, come now another day, sleep well on another time.

Truly heartwrenching...I never said "Goodbye" to my Mom...she's been gone 17 years, now--almost 18--I miss her, still. :(

Effectively penned.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

I never said goodbye to my father. I asked him to save a place for mom and the rest of us. I think he was already gone at that point but I believe, with all my heart and soul, that he heard me.
Love and blessings!

I thought of my long lost brother...somewhere out there and his, "subtle theif" was his addition...he lost his family and wanders, or finds a way behind the bars, when, in...and in them, while out...
I often think of him, wondering, if he is still alive...
Hoping one day he could walk back into our lives, an honest, clean, man...
A excellent write...it leaves alot to be thought of, in many regards.
Bless you and yours this brand New Year! :)
Love and Peace~

Allen, a most heart rendering sorrow I felt as I read this...goodbye's hurt the souls of many. I could almost hear the goodbye in this through your words. This is truly touching!

a deepening sorrow made deeper by the every day things... holes are infinitely harder to fill than gashes..
your voice just somehow adds to the shades of grey; a beautiful resonant thing, but so wrenching with its sweet lines of memory.

Sometimes, even the shortest of goodbye's are hard, long goodbye's still remain the hardest to live with. Nice write.

Cheers,
Dan
